ABC Sensor Box
Defence Embedded Systems

Universally mountable CBRN sensor box built for the ABC Abwehr Korneuburg with Geiger-Muller counter, MQ gas sensors, and O2 monitoring.
// 01 — Context
Built as part of the 1. ABC Umweltmessstelle — a special unit of the ABC Abwehr Korneuburg within the Austrian Armed Forces. The idea: a small, self-contained sensor box that can be mounted on virtually anything. A vehicle, a tripod, a robot — doesn't matter. It just measures and reports.
// 02 — Problem
Professional CBRN detection equipment is expensive, bulky, and often locked into proprietary ecosystems.
Field units need something they can deploy quickly, mount anywhere, and trust to deliver accurate readings without requiring specialized training.
// 03 — How I Built It
A compact ESP32-based sensor box packing a Geiger-Muller counter for radiation detection, a full suite of MQ gas sensors, and an O2 sensor. The box communicates over LoRa with a 2km range, streaming measurements to a handheld terminal. Universally mountable — it goes where the mission needs it.
What Makes It Special
Geiger-Muller Radiation Detection
MQ Gas Sensor Suite
O2 Level Monitoring
2km Long-Range LoRa Link
Universally Mountable Design
// 04 — Outcome
A working prototype that proved off-the-shelf components can deliver reliable CBRN detection in the field.
The universally mountable design means one box fits every deployment scenario the unit runs into.
